Seriously: Reporting spam works. In most case sending forwarding spam mails to abuse@whatevermailserver.com brought great results. Through my reactions I've had quite a bunch of websites and mailaccounts closed down this year already. Just take the time to send a mail! I don't mind advertising - but each time I get an email starting with :"RE:" and it is not a "RE", or when I get letters saying "This is the information you requested" and I did not request it, or even letters linking to websites with content that does not match the mail, then I react... and mostly pretty effective. YOU can do it too!
And here is the perfect, easy to use tool for it:Spam Cop - free and easy!
A dangerous scam, of which I am constantly getting copies, is the famous letter from "the son of the former ruler of Nigeria", or any other shining personality, who needs YOU (whom else) for an incredible business. You are asked to assist in transferring insane amounts of money to an american bank, in exchange to this you receive a few millions from it. As ridiculous as this sounds, there are people falling on this. The results go so far that are being asked to Nigeria to solve a problem in the transfer and get kidnapped or killed there. There is an investigation page on these mails on the Secret Service website, unfortunately I lost the URL.
Simple advice is though, the chance that this wonderful person selected you out of millions of internet users to assist in this truly wealthmaking undertaking, is about 1:100.000.000 ... so I wouldn't go for any of these scams, for the chances to win the jackpot in the Ohio lottery are way higher....
The telephone "dial 90#" scam. This is not a joke. Please read this mail that was forwarded to me!
